It all started when…

Ten-year-old Jia Spearman knows there’s more to her family’s sudden move than anyone is admitting. While Mom, Dad, and Granny stay tight-lipped, Jia can’t shake the feeling that something big—and strange—is unfolding as they race across the country to their new home in Great Mound City. Her siblings, Cory and Wil, are content to go along for the ride, but Jia is determined to uncover the truth.

Her father’s history only deepens the mystery. Once a decorated Air Force captain, he was grounded after terrifying nightmares and hallucinations ended his career as a commercial airline pilot. Now, out of nowhere, he’s been assigned to one of the Midwest’s largest Air Force bases. Jia can’t help but wonder—what is really going on?

In their new city, the Spearman kids meet neighbors unlike any they’ve known before: Stormye, Arye, Wendye, and Skye. What begins as simple friendship quickly turns into an electrifying initiation flight, plunging Jia and her siblings into a high-stakes game that will change their lives forever.
